BEING AWARE OF MY SURROUNDINGS

A local government official was charged of graft and corruption and was suspended from his office. The government official announced that the charges were all fabricated and that he will not step down from his office. A large group of supporters are present to protest. They barricaded the building where the official has once taken office. A struggle seems to start breaking out between the protesters and the police.

?Some questions to ponder upon

If you will be a reporter, are you going to use the conventional way of how the each media will broadcast the given scenario?
If I will be a reporter, as much as possible I will be open to the new and unique ways of how each media will broadcast the given scenario because people are emerging and evolving thus it is better to use the unconventional way so that these people would likely pay more attention and not get bored.

What will you do to not make your report boring? Elaborate your answer.

To not make my report boring, I would consider tackling interesting and socially relevant topics. So that my audience would be more interested. I would also enlighten them as to why they would listen. It is very important that the audience should listen. I would also consider not making my report too hard or too easy so that I can still get the attention of my audience. Also, I would try to change the traditional way of reporting because change grabs attention. I would also tell stories because in telling stories they would be curious and curiosity means attention. Having frequent pauses could also help because moving is the frequent way to keep people from dozing off. Lastly, I would make it short and simple because not having too long speeches keeps the audience's attention.

Would you exaggerate some elements in your report to make it interesting? Why?

No. I would not dare exaggerate some elements in my report to make it interesting because exaggerating might lead to wrong and inaccurate information. That is a no-no as a reporter.

LATEST TRENDS IN TECHNOLOGIES

           VIRTUAL AND AUGMENTED REALITY

Figure 2. Guide Questions in video making of the latest trends , Javier. December 30, 2017.

I've felt lucky for having this as our topic. Though there are hurdles that went along the way in making this video, I have learned a lot from our topic. I have learned that VRs are not only for
entertainment but they also help in our everyday lives. Especially to the various fields that propagates our way of living, our life.

These are some things that I have learned before the year 2017 ended. Though it is a little thing, learning more about this widened my perspective.

It made me believe that someday...

Someday the time would come that our world would be better through our emerging technology

That the better days are coming...

I am really grateful to have Earlynne, Maryelle and Elinor as my group mates because they made me realize that with cooperation we can overcome whatever's in store for us.

A Video Interview: Broadening my Knowledge on Indigenous Media and Information

Together with my friends, Earlynne Castillo and Maryelle Matela, we decided to interview Danise Raine Dagatan. Raine is our common friend whom we know as an astounding, responsible and committed leader. With her interview, I have learned that there are different perspectives when it comes to handling and giving out information.

I am truly happy that we chose her as a respondent because for once we got to see her views and opinions.

                Who is Danise Raine?
         Introduction of our respondent

Types of Media: Print, Broadcast, New Media (Lecture)

~Different Types of Media~

Figure 1. Different Types of Media, Javier. November 30, 2017.

---Having my own definition of ?---

Print Media - these are kinds of media that distributes printed matter. These media are traditional and mechanical.

Broadcast Media- public means of media usually through a medium of electronic mass communication. This usually convey information to the widest possible audience.

New media-emerging medias honed through more advanced technologies. These are the modern medias and they constantly change through time.

Media Convergence

Figure 2. Media Convergence: Its Platform and Specific Example, Javier. November 30, 2017.

Synthesis

Describe how new technologies have
led to the convergence of traditional
and new media.
~ New technologies have led to the convergence of traditional and new media because humans are constantly changing in order to survive in the modern world. New technologies leading to convergence became vital for many people. The development of technology, converging through the traditional and new media made life easier. These new technologies become the peak towards progress and development. Traditional medias then moves forward to new media concluding a convergence of media. Since it is much more efficient to use developed technologies than the traditional one, we, people chose to evolve where it’s created and simply converged with new media.

Explain how media convergence create
new opportunities for interaction.
~With media convergence, it creates new opportunities for interaction by making people communicate more conveniently and efficiently. Media convergence provides people with medias that provides content with an interactivity that enables a one-to-one or one-to-many communication where both people involved interchange information constantly. These provided media are less hassle and more competent to use.

Describe the use of one or two forms of new
media to share knowledge and information
on a current issue in society.
~With one or two forms of new media we can capably share knowledge and information on a current issue in society through online media and its connectivity. Bringing people together for collaboration and creativity with the use of sharing. An example of a new media is Twitter. People can send tweet instantly to billions of people then reaching it to billions of people again. Therefore making the shared knowledge and information on a current issue on society more accessible and easier to find hence making it easier for us to be updated and gain awareness. Another one is Facebook. Through Facebook, people can instantly share a post and comment through it making these people engaged on a current issue in society. These people are able to express their opinions and thoughts thus sharing knowledge and information with each other. Most importantly: it allows us more control over the quality and degree of connection that we maintain with others (Siapera, 2012). Thus sharing the knowledge and information on a current issue in society has a control. Making what we say and what we post to these new medias subjective and possibly filtered.

Explain how a person can be portrayed
in public in the age of media convergence.

~A person can be portrayed in public in the age of media convergence through the use of televisions and the Internet; making it accessible through laptops and smartphones by the use of social medias.
A person depends on a public opinion in the age of media convergence. They are portrayed both negatively and positively. Through the use of different platforms in media convergence, these different platforms then portray a person providing a coverage of their basic information, feats, failure, goodwill, hostility, and exemplary or deplorable life.

Information Literacy (Laboratory)

=Widening my understanding in Information Literacy=

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER

Knowledge is very powerful. With us being knowledgeable, we can use it in all aspects of our life. With knowledge, we can survive life. Knowledge is limitless.A person can learn every day and with knowledge we have the power of solving problems. Through the power of knowledge, development and progress in our world would be possible.

How does information become knowledge?

Information becomes knowledge when we can make meaning of that information.
Only when we can truly understand the information, it then becomes knowledge.
It is when we are able to incorporate it to our mind and understand the information and use it. When experience and competence is added to the information it will then become knowledge.

Importance of giving credit

to the source of one’s work

The importance of giving credit is that it is the right thing to do as a person. When we give credit, it reflects ourselves us a righteous person. Another thing, it is important also to give credit so that information can be verified and validated. When it is verified and validated, it can be refined more to provide and share information with others. Most importantly, we give credit so that we will not be accused of plagiarism and suffer the consequences of plagiarizing.

Information Literate Individual: Knowing them

Becoming an Ingenious Individual: The importance of being an Information Literate

“Acquiring literacy is an empowering process, enabling millions to access knowledge and information which broadens horizons, increases opportunities and creates alternatives for building a better life.”- Kofi Annan

An information literate individual is a powerful and knowledgeable individual. He/ She can access information that may widen the possibilities and hone the potentials of a country thus improving the quality of life. He/ She has the ability to recognize when information is needed. Needed for locating and evaluating. Hence, when he/she recognizes an information, it is then used effectively to communicate through various formats.

He/ She then becomes the strength through diversity.
