These questions helping me
as a journalist

These questions helped me as a journalist in a very helpful way. It made me easier to organize the things that I plan to write in an article. It helped me narrow down my task thus creating a guideline for me that would lead to creating a more efficient and effective article. It also helped me easily provide information knowing my purpose relaying it to my target audience. Also knowing what I want to do and how I put this work creatively helped me because it fulfills my role as a journalist.

Introduction to Media and Information Literacy (Lecture)

Weekly Interaction Log with Media and Information Providers

Figure 1Weekly Interaction Log with Media and Information Providers, Javier. November 8, 2017.

The media provider that I spent most of the time with is Netflix.

Role that the media plays in my life

The role that the media plays in my life with all honesty is mostly leisure. Because with Netflix (My favorite! No doubt)
and other applications I enjoy the feeling that I get from it.
May it be watching, reading or listening it serves as my stress-reliever and knowing this ? It just shows that it plays a great role when it comes to leisure. It makes me happy, satisfied and contented even though that it means not sleeping. Being able to feel raw emotions through media makes me feel ecstatic.

My very own definition of

Technology Literacy
~involves a continuum in learning with regards to technology.
It means that an individual is able to understand its aspects. May it be the background and the nature.

Media Literacy
~involves a continuum in learning with regards to media. An individual must be able to understand the concept of media and the proper usage of it.

Information Literacy
~involves a continuum in learning with regards to information. An individual must be able to understand the concept, process and purpose of information.

Media and Information Literacy
~involves a continuum in learning with regards to media and information. An individual must be able to understand the concept of media and the information it gives. One must be able to know the limits in media and information.

-My Misconceptions-

1. Technology Literacy is only the literacy
for technology itself. I didn't know that it
involves knowing how to access technology
correctly.
2.Media and Information Literacy
is only being literate in media and
information for one's self. I did not
know that you are literate if you are
also able to share information with
others.

3.In media literacy I thought we only need
to know the background and process. But
media literacy means that an individual is
able to evaluate media thoroughly.

What makes an individual literate in media and information?

In my opinion, an individual is literate in media if he/she involves a continuum in learning
especially knowing it in all aspects. One, is if they truly understand and make their own right
decisions based on the media & information they consume. Expanding this, individual may be
able to understand the complex messages or information he/she receives in all other media
with the ability to evaluate the quality of the information, knowing where to find the
information needed, using it to aid in his/her tasks and purpose. Two, it means that the individual
is able to efficiently locate, accurately evaluate, effectively use, and clearly communicate
information in using media. Provided that he or she knows what lies within the media.
May it be the limitations and rights on it.

Activities/habits
I practice which
illustrates media and
information literacy

a.      Reading then sharing the news I find in websites and social media that are true and credible.
b.      Following and understanding the terms of policy in every website or media
application that I use.
c.       Being able to identify an information if it is a fraud or not; when it is a fraud I
voice out my opinion on twitter.
